In Fitzmaurice's art a personal, lyrical figuration asserts itself. The human figure and natural world fuse with biomorphic forms and strong colour to form a direct appeal to both heart and head. These are rich, mysterious works which reward repeated viewing: motifs to do with family and rites of passage also reference art of other centuries.
